Life with a Puppy

We’ve had a busy few weeks around here and this post puts an end to my blogging hiatus. Between having a new puppy and beautiful spring weather (lots of mud!) there’s been a lot of reworking in our routine.

I’ve heard people say that having a dog is like having another kid and now I definitely believe it. The first few nights is the honeymoon period. The cuteness of this sweet little thing blinds you to the accidences, piles of wet laundry, crying and sleepless nights. Then it hits you ... is THIS what I signed up for? Will my life ever be the same? Well no, probably not. So, we have the “how can we work together to make this easier” conversation and things start gradually returning to normal ...

The dog now waits for me to get to the door before relieving himself. The kid’s fascination with watching him do this has waned. We rounded up a lot more old towels for his crate and keep wet towels a bucket outside (doing his laundry every other day instead of twice a day). The kids have new ways that they can help with the dog. And he’s showing signs of pretty high intelligence, which is encouraging on the training side of things.

That being said, Bear and Mason were the only one’s on my camera this week when I uploaded pictures. So, Desi Lou will make an appearance soon. Here are a few of my favorites ...

This is by far the best chew toy ever because it doesn't leave a mess like the raw hide bones. It is as it appears -- an antler.; from what, I don't know, but it's great. Thank you Allison for the great tip!
Mason LOVES having a dog and it's super sweet to watch them interact.
